A paraglider and a Volvo FH are about to go on a breath-taking journey in Volvo Trucks’ Live Test - ‘The Flying Passenger’. The truck needs to keep the paraglider in the air while giving it a lift uphill, on winding mountain roads, so to succeed the truck must maintain speed. ‘The Flying Passenger’ will premiere on November 29th on Volvo Trucks’ digital platforms.
Volvo Trucks’ powertrain with I-Shift Dual Clutch promises driveability while maintaining low fuel consumption. In Volvo Trucks’ upcoming challenge, the performance of the powertrain is put to the test by connecting a paraglider to a Volvo FH in, what the company believes to be the world’s first stunt of its kind to involve a truck and a paraglider.
“Any truck driver knows how difficult it is to maintain cruising speed in hilly terrain. In order to do that, you need an engine and gearbox that enable extraordinary driveability,” explained Claes Nilsson, President, Volvo Trucks. “‘The Flying Passenger’ is a test that demonstrates both the outstanding performance and efficiency of our enhanced powertrain.”
The Volvo FH used in this Live Test is equipped with Volvo’s powertrain, consisting of the enhanced D13 Euro-6 engine and I-Shift automated Dual Clutch gearbox. The dual clutch technology provides power shift gear changes that ensure the truck loses no momentum while changing gears under tough conditions.
“Driving in high gears and securing seamless gear shifting is an important factor for fuel efficiency. The I-Shift Dual Clutch enables smooth driving while staying in high gears and low revs,” said Staffan Wendeberg, Product Manager FH and Long haul.
The upcoming challenge is the latest instalment in Volvo Trucks’ Live Test series, where the truck’s features and capabilities are put through multiple tests. Previous global releases include ‘The Epic Split’, ‘Look Who’s Driving’ and ‘The Hamster Stunt’.
The film will premiere on 29th November on Volvo Trucks’ digital platforms.
